About Nutritional Therapy
Nutritional Therapy is an approach to improving health through individually tailored nutrition and lifestyle changes. It promotes the benefits of good wholesome unprocessed foods, as well as the therapeutic effects of particular foods for specific health conditions. Training is based on the principles of Functional Medicine, an evidence based, patient centered approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and preventing the underlying causes of chronic disease.
The functional medicine approach is to recognize signs and symptoms of illness as messages from the body indicating an underlying imbalance in one or more systems. The Nutritional therapist tries to identify what the underlying issue or imbalance might be, what may have triggered it and what may be happening in your current diet or lifestyle to keep it there. Specific foods, supplements and lifestyle changes are applied to encourage the body to restore balance and function at its best.
Nutritional therapy is not a replacement for medical advice or treatment but has a complimentary and supportive role in your health care. A nutritional therapist does not diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions.
Nutritional therapy does not offer a quick fix solution to health issues, however, it provides the individual with an opportunity to exercise some control over their own health outcomes through tailored nutrition and lifestyle recommendations.
